The snow that fell in Moscow and the Moscow region on Saturday night will not last until the New Year — it will melt during the upcoming thaws. This was announced on December 13 by Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos Weather Center.

"Given the forecasts of precipitation and temperature changes for the coming days, we can say that this snow will not last until the New Year," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

Leus also explained that the upcoming three-day frosty period will have little snow and will not increase the height of the cover. Then thaws will return to the region, which will completely melt the snow, the forecaster said.

The expert also provided some data on snow in Moscow and the region. According to the VDNKh weather station, the snow cover in the capital is 2 cm, which is less than 15% of the climatic norm for this period. 2-3 cm of snow was recorded at other stations in the city, about 3 cm in New Moscow, and from 1 to 6 cm in the Moscow region.

Earlier in the day, Leus reported that in Moscow on Saturday night, the lowest temperature since the beginning of the autumn-winter season was recorded — the thermometer dropped to -5.8 degrees at the VDNKh station. The forecaster clarified that in other areas of Moscow, the temperature ranged from -5 degrees in Butovo to -5.4 degrees in Baltschuga, and in New Moscow it was also -5.8 degrees. Shakhovskaya became the coldest place in the Moscow region, where -6.6 degrees were recorded.
