Thai Prime Minister announces continuation of hostilities with Cambodia
Thailand will continue to fight on the border with Cambodia and will not stop the conflict. This was announced on December 13 by the country's Prime Minister Anuthin Chanvirakun.
The day before, US President Donald Trump announced that he had succeeded in ending the escalation between Thailand and Cambodia. He added that Washington had done a "good job" with the two countries.
"Thailand will continue to conduct military operations until we feel no harm or threat to our land and people," Chanvirakun wrote on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).
On December 8, the Cambodian military opened fire on the Thai Anupong base, killing one soldier and injuring two others. The Thai army has called on residents of border areas to evacuate to shelters due to the threat of escalation of the conflict.
The next day, on December 9, fighting between Thailand and Cambodia unfolded along the entire joint border, affecting five regions and hundreds of citizens on both sides. It was emphasized that the disputed territories along the 817-kilometer border have repeatedly become a source of conflict.
On December 11, Trump announced a conversation with the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia to resolve the conflict between the countries. He added that he hopes to force the sides to cease hostilities. According to him, the United States can play a key role in preventing the escalation of the conflict.
On December 12, the American leader announced that Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to a cease-fire and respect for an earlier peace agreement. He stressed that both countries are committed to a peaceful settlement and are interested in continuing trade and economic ties with the United States.
