In Iran, a foreign tanker carrying 6 million liters of contraband fuel was detained in the Gulf of Oman. This was reported on December 12 by IRIB TV and radio company with reference to Mojtab Gahremani, head of Justice of the Iranian province of Hormozgan.
"In order to combat fuel smuggling networks and smugglers, this foreign ship was seized yesterday by judicial officials in the Sea of Oman and in waters under the sovereignty of our country near Yask," Gahremani said in a statement.
It is specified that the tanker did not have navigation documentation and cargo clearance, it also turned off navigation systems. There were 18 crew members on board — citizens of India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Earlier, on December 7, it was reported that more than 700 thousand liters of contraband fuel were confiscated in Bandar Abbas, Iran, and about 200 people were detained.
