The dermatologist named ways to prepare the skin for winter
The cold season is the ideal time to prepare the skin for winter stress and recover from the summer sun. According to dermatologist and cosmetologist Zarema Omarova in an interview with Izvestia on December 14, starting in autumn, it is possible to effectively carry out procedures to smooth the relief and tone of the skin, get rid of age spots and eliminate the effects of photoaging.
"The salon plan for the winter can include biorevitalization, mesotherapy for deep hydration and stimulation of regeneration, as well as various hardware techniques that activate cellular activity. Basic home care during the cold season also requires significant adjustments, and special attention should be paid to the areas around the eyes and lips, which are often left without proper protection," she said.
Light moisturizers should be replaced with products with denser, more nutritious textures containing glycerin, shea butter or cocoa. Creams with ceramides and squalane are suitable for very dry skin, and night products should have a high concentration of hyaluronic acid for deep hydration.
In the cold season, acids return to the care ritual: AHA/PHA acids help combat the effects of UV exposure and smooth out the skin texture, while retinol makes wrinkles less pronounced. At the same time, products with alcohol, alkali and abrasive scrubs should be discarded in winter. For cleansing, it is necessary to use soft creamy or foaming formulas that do not destroy the lipid barrier, followed by a pH—balancing tonic. Chemical exfoliants with lactic acid or mandelic acid are suitable for delicate exfoliation. Before going outside, it is recommended to apply a serum under the cream for additional care.
The preservation of the water balance remains critically important even in winter, the expert emphasizes. It is necessary to drink enough clean water and humidify the indoor air, as temperature fluctuations and the operation of heating devices actively deprive the skin of moisture.
"Avoiding sunscreens in the cold season is also a mistake: ultraviolet light remains active and provokes photoaging, so when leaving home, you should apply a sanskrit with an SPF of at least 30," the doctor warned.
The winter diet needs additional support due to the cold and a shortage of fresh fruits and vegetables. The diet should include fatty fish, eggs, and fortified dairy products as sources of vitamin D, which is involved in collagen synthesis. Salmon, mackerel, flaxseed oil and nuts will provide omega-3 fatty acids to maintain skin elasticity. Antioxidant vitamins A and E, found in carrots, spinach, pumpkin and olive oil, promote cell regeneration and protect the lipid barrier. Zinc is also needed to strengthen the immune system and skin health, which can be obtained from beef, legumes and pumpkin seeds.
On November 30, cosmetologist Anastasia Shibaeva and experts from the Golden Apple told Izvestia about skin hydration during the heated season. According to experts, dryness worsens the appearance of fine wrinkles and exacerbates chronic dermatoses, including eczema, atopic dermatitis and acne. It was clarified that basic home care with gentle cleansing without aggressive surfactants should be established for care. The experts named foams and cream gels as preferred.
