The Kandalaksha District Court of the Murmansk region sentenced a 61-year-old motorist from the Moscow region for the deaths of two motorcyclists in an accident. This is reported by the district court and the prosecutor's office of the region.

The accident occurred on the night of July 11, 2021, on the 104th km of the Umba–Kandalaksha highway. It was established that the driver of an Audi-100 with a trailer did not give way to two motorcyclists moving along it when leaving the observation deck. The vehicles collided.

As a result of the accident, both motorcyclists were seriously injured, from which they died on the spot. According to the Bi-port news agency, the victims were 28 and 17 years old.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor's office notes that the motorist did not admit his guilt. According to the 61-year-old man, the cause of the accident was speeding on the part of motorcyclists.

However, the court considered the evidence presented to be sufficient. A resident of the Moscow region was found guilty under Part 5 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of traffic rules that negligently caused the death of two persons") and sentenced to four years in prison to be served in a general regime colony.

For the next three years, the man is also prohibited from driving. In addition, moral damage in the amount of 2 million rubles was recovered from the convict in favor of the victims. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
