The name of a star is a product more expensive than any advertisement. One short video, and thousands of people carry their money wherever their favorite performers, TV presenters, and bloggers point them. But what remains behind the scenes? In the documentary "IN THE NAME OF A STAR: HOW ARE WE BEING BRED?" REN TV for the first time shows a hidden industry where celebrities become part of huge fraudulent schemes, and their authority turns into a tool of deception.

Olga Buzova advertises the best yogurt, Larisa Guzeeva recommends settling on a tropical island, Ksenia Sobchak advises buying houses from a reliable developer, and Philip Kirkorov urges to undergo training by a well-known psychologist. Fans take their word for it and are happy to invest money. A famous name is the most expensive product today: it works more powerfully than any advertisement, and it can be sold indefinitely. The stars speak confidently, they do not doubt, they do not specify, they do not warn. That is why their participation in dubious projects becomes a key element of the fraudulent trap.

How much does a video featuring Kirkorov, Buzova or Lolita cost? How does the celebrity enrichment scheme work? And most importantly, why aren't the stars responsible for the consequences?

To find answers to these questions, the film's authors came to an advertising agency with a fake "manhood enhancement cream," expecting to be kicked out the door. Instead, the agent not only suggested the candidacies of stars who are ready to advertise such products, but also announced the fees!

A new documentary reveals how the "star recommendations" market works: million-dollar contracts without guarantees, commercials shot in an hour, and an audience that blindly believes in idols. The film's authors will show the shocking stories of people who lost their apartments, savings and dreams – just because they believed the "face on the cover." How did the Larisa Dolina effect bring down the luxury recycling market in Moscow? What was behind Larisa Guzeeva's vacation on paradise island, and did she realize that she was involved in a dubious story? Affected buyers of fictitious real estate will tell about this scam in Bali. But the main thing is that the wanted businessman Sergey Domogatsky, who sold almost a hundred non–existent villas in Bali, got in touch with the journalists of REN TV.

The film also includes an exclusive interview with actor Vladimir Permyakov, who in the 90s played Lenya Golubkov in an advertisement for the financial pyramid "MMM", which left millions of Russians without money. And recently, Permyakov himself fell for the bait of scammers: by turning to fake lawyers for help in increasing the amount of his pension, the actor was left without any money at all.

Documentary investigation "In the name of a star: How are we being bred?" will be released on REN TV on Saturday, December 13, at 16:55.
