- The FSB announced the use of NATO "flying radars" near the Russian border in the Arctic
The military of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) has begun using "flying radars" — long—range radar detection and control aircraft - for reconnaissance activities near the Russian border in the Arctic. This was announced on December 10 by Vladimir Koretsky, head of the border department of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.
During the XV Chilingarov International Forum "The Arctic: Present and Future", Koretsky noted that NATO is building up its military potential in the western sector of the Arctic. The countries of the bloc have stated that they need military and political deterrence of Russia, and therefore intelligence activity in the Barents Sea has increased significantly.
"Reconnaissance ships remain a key tool in the NATO technical intelligence system in the Arctic. The use of aerial reconnaissance in the immediate vicinity of the Russian state border is increasing every year. For the first time, the use of long—range radar detection aircraft of the NATO Air Force has been recorded," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
He added that competition in the Arctic is growing, and the collective West aims to establish an international management regime in the waters of the Northern Sea Route with withdrawal from Russian jurisdiction.
Russian Ambassador to Denmark Vladimir Barbin told Izvestia on November 10 that Denmark had spent $6 billion to strengthen its military presence in the Arctic under pressure from the United States. He noted that the Danish government is trying to justify the militarization of the Arctic without evidence by the need to respond to the alleged increase in the military threat from Russia.
In September, the Russian Embassy in Oslo told Izvestia that the United Kingdom was coordinating NATO's efforts to militarize the Arctic region. Norway supports these efforts. The intensification of the alliance's military preparations in high latitudes poses threats to Russia's national security, has a destabilizing effect and increases escalation risks in the Arctic region, the diplomats said.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
