The incidence of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections has increased by 20% in the Moscow Region over the past week. This was reported in the press service of the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) in the region on Wednesday, December 10.

The ministry clarified that from December 1 to December 7, the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza among the population is at a seasonal level without exceeding thresholds, with an increase of 20% compared to the previous week.

"More than 50% of SARS cases have been registered among children under 14 years of age. <...> A(H3N2) prevails among the circulating influenza strains," the Moscow City News Agency quoted the report as saying.

Rospotrebnadzor added that currently more than 4.7 million people have been vaccinated against influenza in the Moscow region.

There is an increase in the incidence of influenza in Russia. According to the Smorodintsev Influenza Research Institute, viruses have become more active in most federal districts of Russia. Exceeding the thresholds for the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza was recorded in eight of the 89 regions of Russia. The increase in infections is noted mainly in the regions of the Far East, Siberia and the Urals, according to 360.ru .

At the same time, Rospotrebnadzor believes that it is too early to talk about a full-fledged epidemic, according to the website. kp.ru .

Earlier that day, Alexander Gorelov, Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, at the Izvestia News Center on December 10 during a press conference on: "Seasonal diseases: the main risks and protective measures" said that the flu can cause a wide range of dangerous complications, and their nature directly depends on the individual characteristics of the patient's body.
