- The Russian Foreign Ministry commented on Callas' statements about freedom of speech in Russia
The head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, does not have the expertise and experience to criticize freedom of speech in Russia. This was stated on December 9 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commenting on the statement of a European official about freedoms.
"It's just indecent, in my opinion, to even discuss what Kaya Callas says. I would like to ask the question, who is she to talk about such global topics? Where is that experience? Where is that vital expertise? Where is the basis that allows us to speak on these topics in this way?", RIA Novosti quoted Zakharova as saying.
According to her, the head of the European diplomacy has nothing behind him except "the history of ancestors who were sold to any regime for any money, as long as they were somewhere close to power."
"There is a shameful history of her current position in power, and there are absolutely inappropriate statements," Zakharova added.
On December 6, the Czech newspaper HN stated that the work of Kaya Kallas was causing growing frustration among European officials. The publication notes that a year after her appointment to an important post, her approach to work is increasingly being called unproductive.
