Euroclear may lose €16 billion in Russia in case of withdrawal of Russian assets in the EU

Euroclear, which has assets worth €16 billion in Russia, risks losing them if the frozen funds of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation are expropriated in the European Union (EU) according to the plan of the European Commission (EC). This was announced on December 9 by Guillaume Elie, Director General of the Financial Risk depository.

"If the EU's decision is interpreted as the confiscation of Russian assets, it will make Euroclear and its clients investing in Russia vulnerable to legal prosecution and asset seizure. The depository emphasizes that it manages assets of about €16 billion in Russia," he said in an interview with Agence France-Presse.
