Belarus has identified the operator of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that crashed in Grodno in late November. This was announced on December 9 by the State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus, Alexander Volfovich.

"The person who launched the drone has been opened by cameras. A search is underway for this operator of an unmanned aerial vehicle," BelTA quoted him as saying.

Specialists of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country have established that the village of Kapchiamestis in the Lazdi region of Lithuania became the launch point of the UAV. According to the analysis, the aircraft was supposed to leave the territory of Belarus through Poland.

According to Volfovich, the Lithuanian authorities have been notified of the situation with the search for the drone operator, but there has been no response from them, and in the absence of cooperation between the special services, the countries will not be able to resolve this issue.

"Of course, it was possible to create a political scandal out of this, but we don't want to quarrel with our neighbors," he added.

The incident occurred on November 30, when the drone crashed in the city of Grodno. Later, on December 1, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus protested to Lithuania in connection with the violation of airspace. It was noted that the ministry regarded the border violation as a provocation by Lithuania directed against Minsk and Warsaw.

On the same day, the Interior Ministry of Belarus reported the presence of extremist materials in the drone that crashed in Grodno. According to investigators, the drone was dumping extremist printed materials. In addition, the drone was equipped with a photo and video camera with the ability to collect intelligence data.
