On December 9, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the situation on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border had stabilized, although there were enough problems.

He noted that the day before, the head of the State Border Committee had reported on a multitude of issues that needed to be addressed urgently. According to the president, it is necessary to equip the border, which is "abandoned from Ukraine," to build outposts and arm border guards.

He drew attention to the western direction, noting the active militarization of Poland, Germany and other neighboring states.

"They are not only increasing military budgets, but also trying to increase the army by about two times. This raises a simple, mundane question: if someone is doing something, it means that they need it for something. These countries will not just spend huge amounts of money on, as they say, confrontation with Russia and Belarus," the BelTA news agency quoted Lukashenko as saying..

On the same day, Lukashenko announced that Belarus had to arm border guards on the border with Ukraine. He also said that the day before, the chairman of the State Border Committee had reported to him about the need to resolve many issues, including mobilizing resources to strengthen the border. This includes the construction of outposts and the arming of border guards.
