Politico reported on Sarkozy's complaints about fellow inmates in prison
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, released from prison under judicial control, complained about his prison neighbors who "caused hell" during his 20-day imprisonment. This was reported on December 9 by the newspaper Politico, which obtained access to the memoirs of the politician "Prisoner's Diary".
"A neighboring prisoner sang a song from The Lion King part of the time, and beat the bars of his cell with a spoon the other part," the newspaper quoted Sarkozy as saying.
In the book, the former president describes his experience in a cell, which he compares to a "low-end budget hotel." At the same time, he complains about the noise created by other prisoners. Sarkozy also notes that the atmosphere was "threatening," and one of the prisoners "relentlessly beat the bars of his cell with a metal object."
"This noise lasted for several minutes. It seemed endless to me. Welcome to hell!" recalls the former politician.
In his memoirs, he also describes everyday inconveniences, including a hard mattress, "plastic" pillows and a weak head of water in the shower, adds "Газета.Ru ".
Le Figaro newspaper reported on December 6 that Nicolas Sarkozy shared his memories of life in prison. He said that for three weeks his diet consisted of cereal bars and dairy products. The politician noted that he wrote a book every day at a small plywood table, and then handed it over to the lawyers, who, in turn, delivered it to his secretary.
On November 10, the court decided to release Sarkozy from prison under judicial control. As part of the release, a number of prohibited actions are provided for the ex-president. It was noted that the former French president could not leave the country, communicate with other defendants in the case and contact the Minister of Justice Gerald Darmanin. If these conditions are not met, Sarkozy may be returned to prison.
Before that, on November 5, Le Point newspaper reported that Sarkozy, who was in Sante prison in Paris, refused prison meals and limited himself to yoghurts. As the newspaper noted, the former head of state was afraid that he could spit in the food or "do something even worse."
