The Immortal Regiment movement turned 10 years old
The Immortal Regiment, a social movement that united millions of Russians in an effort to preserve the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War and their exploits, has turned 10 years old. On the occasion of an important date, the Memory Out of Time forum opened in Moscow. It is attended by representatives of the movement from Russia and 10 countries that are engaged in patriotic education of young people. Over the years, the Immortal Regiment has become a large-scale memorial event, without which it is impossible to imagine the celebration of Victory Day. Ilya Anikeev, a correspondent for Izvestia, told us more about it.
"In Russia, every family has its own story of Victory. These are authentic stories about exploits in the rear and at the front. Someone participated in the defense of Moscow, carried bread along the road of life to besieged Leningrad, fought on the Kursk Bulge, was wounded liberating Kiev, and in May 45 signed on the walls of the Reichstag," the correspondent said.
To preserve the memory, the descendants of veterans with their photographs walk shoulder to shoulder through the streets of different cities, villages and villages every year. The Immortal Regiment movement has become international.
"A very massive "Immortal Regiment" is taking place in Kyrgyzstan. Hundreds of thousands of people take to the central streets. All our coordinators do a great job throughout the year. This is information work, work with youth, with children," said Galina Ketova, coordinator of the movement in Moscow.
This year, the All-Russian campaign "Immortal Regiment" has a round date. 10 years ago, representatives of 62 regions of the country created a public movement in memory of the heroes.
"Both the online march, the Hero's wall, and the Immortal Regiment on transport - they let people in because they give people the opportunity to participate in the Immortal Regiment march in various regions, in various life situations," said Elena Tsunaeva, co—chairman of the Central Headquarters of the Immortal Regiment movement..
The march was not held for two years due to the pandemic, but a virtual format was available. The campaign was held online and on thousands of media facades in Moscow, Samara, Voronezh, Nizhny Novgorod and Tver.
"Five years ago, we posted the Immortal Regiment online on our media screens and media facades. Today, the audience of our holding company is more than 50 million Russians. And this year, the year of the 80th anniversary of the Victory, we have traditionally supported the Immortal Regiment online," said Konstantin Major, CEO of the MAER media holding.
10 years is the time to take stock and set new goals. Memory Beyond Time is the All—Russian forum of the Immortal Regiment, where the coordinators discuss issues of fostering patriotism and active citizenship among young people.
"In the year of Defender of the Fatherland, we conducted search activities, looking for Red Army soldiers on the borders of the Battle of Rzhev. 118 fighters have been raised this year," said Stanislav Kuzmenko, chairman of the volunteer company.
The feat of the people in the Great Patriotic War is forever in the genetic memory of every citizen. Therefore, joining the ranks of the "Immortal Regiment" means honoring the memory of front—line soldiers, home front workers and all the heroes who defeated fascism.
On December 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Immortal Regiment movement had become a unique phenomenon in the life of Russia and many other countries.
