The Times reported on the EU's plan to announce a decision on Russian assets
European countries plan to announce a decision on reaching an agreement on the expropriation of Russia's sovereign assets during the current or next week. The British newspaper The Times wrote about this on December 9, citing government sources.
"We hope that a deal will be concluded within the next week or so," a representative of the British government is quoted as saying in the publication.
According to Downing Street, we are talking about up to £100 billion frozen in European accounts, of which about £8 billion are in the UK. The funds are planned to be used to finance Ukraine.
Earlier, on December 8, Svetlana Zhurova, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Relations, said that the lifelong freezing of Russian assets by the European Union (EU) was unacceptable. Earlier, on December 7, the Financial Times (FT) newspaper wrote that European officials had identified the legal possibility to permanently freeze Russian assets in the EU.
