Medical and IT specialties have become the most sought-after in colleges

Medical, technical, occupational, and pedagogical specialties proved to be the most popular among applicants entering colleges and technical schools. As the Ministry of Education reported on December 9, about 1.3 million people enrolled in the secondary vocational education system in 2025.

As RIA Novosti notes, "the areas of Nursing and Information Systems and Programming have become leaders. According to the ministry, 84.3 thousand people enrolled in the "Nursing" field, 74.3 thousand in the IT field. The top also included "Medical business", "Law Enforcement" and "Tourism and Hospitality".

Working professions remain popular: "Welder" (28 thousand enrolled), "Cook, pastry chef" (26.4 thousand) and a specialty in vehicle repair (25 thousand). The direction "Teaching in primary schools" is also in demand.

The number of budget places in vocational education institutions has increased to 850 thousand, which is 68 thousand more than a year earlier.

Earlier, on December 4, it was reported that the popularity of targeted college education has grown more than fivefold in five years. Starting in 2026, the targeted training agreement will give applicants priority for admission, and the Ministry of Education expects further growth in this form of training.
