- A large workshop for illegal processing of salmon fish has been identified in Kamchatka
In the Kamchatka Territory, police officers discovered an underground workshop where salmon fish was processed on an industrial scale. As the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk reported on December 9, about 11 tons of products and at least 400 kg of caviar with a total value of over 1.5 million rubles were found in the room.
"According to the available data, aquatic biological resources were purchased from unidentified persons, and then processed and frozen," she said.
The investigation found that the finished products were sold without the mandatory labeling of the EAEU. The organizer of the illegal production has been detained, and a criminal case has been opened under Part 4 of Article 171.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The agency recalled that the absence of labeling indicates the illegal origin of the goods and may pose a danger to consumers.
Earlier, on December 3, it was reported that a suspect was detained in the Astrakhan region and 6.5 tons of sturgeon fish transported in a truck disguised as vegetables were seized. A criminal case has been initiated, and all participants in the illegal trafficking of aquatic biological resources are being identified.
