Gutan announced the initiation of 350 cases of corruption in key areas of the state
More than 36 thousand corruption crimes have been registered in Russia in less than a year, and about 17 thousand people have been brought to criminal responsibility. This was announced in an interview on December 8 by the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, Alexander Gutsan.
"If we talk about the dynamics, over the past five years, the number of corruption-related crimes has averaged about 35,000 per year, and over 36,000 have already been registered in this incomplete year. Most of them are related to bribery and commercial bribery, fraud, embezzlement, abuse and abuse of official authority. About 17 thousand people have been brought to criminal responsibility," TASS quoted him as saying.
According to the Prosecutor General, the real scale of corruption may be higher than the official figures reflect.
"They can only partially assess the real state of crime and the effectiveness of the measures taken. Firstly, due to the high latency of corruption and the inability to determine the relationship between hidden and revealed acts. Secondly, by showing the quantity, they do not disclose the quality of the work being done, which is much more important," he said.
Gutsan added that corrupt officials primarily target areas with large finances — national projects, military needs and infrastructure of new regions.
"Corrupt officials have neither honor nor conscience, their interest is where there is a lot of money," he stressed.
The Prosecutor General also said that this year alone, at the initiative of prosecutors, more than 700 civil servants were dismissed due to loss of trust. According to him, 350 criminal cases of corruption in the most important areas for the state have been initiated in less than a year.
Earlier, on December 3, it was reported that the Basmanny Court of Moscow had arrested former State Duma deputy Anatoly Voronovsky in a case of receiving a particularly large bribe. According to the court's decision, the ex-MP was arrested for one month and eight days. He is accused of accepting bribes worth more than 25 million rubles.
