"More than half of Russians (56%) plan to rest during the New Year holidays this time, but one in five (20%) will still go to work during the holidays," the publication says.

It is noted that among those who are going on vacation, the majority (71%) will spend time with their family. Another 18% will meet with friends, mainly young people aged 18-24 (30%), and 17% — with a significant other. The main leisure activities of Russians are watching movies and TV series (53%) and walking in parks (40%). 22% plan to attend New Year's concerts and Christmas trees, 21% plan to attend Christmas markets, and 19% plan to attend active sports such as ice skating, skiing, and snowboarding.

"At the same time, only a third (37%) of respondents try to plan their holidays in advance — the rest make plans only if they see some interesting event (22%), but mostly they prefer to just go with the flow so as not to limit themselves in any way (41%)," the study clarifies.

41% of Russians are not going to buy anything specifically for recreation, the rest are planning to buy goods for comfort (35%), winter clothes and accessories (26%), creative goods (14%), equipment (8%) and sports equipment (7%). Russians expect to spend an average of 11 thousand rubles on all this and entertainment during the holidays.

Earlier, on December 8, Igor Sorokin, deputy head of the Moscow City Fire and Rescue Service, told how to safely decorate a Christmas tree. According to him, a few simple rules must be followed to ensure safety when installing a Christmas tree. The main symbol of the holiday should stand on a stable foundation, away from heaters, batteries and open flames.
