Any like, repost, or comment on the Internet can be a reason for criminal prosecution. About this on December 9, "Gazeta.Ru" said lawyer Albert Khaleyan.

According to him, actions on social networks are considered as spreading information, and citizens can be involved under articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on public calls to extremism, terrorism, mass riots, insulting authorities or religious feelings.

"An open account on a social network is already a public space. A repost of a message calling for violence or a story about "freedom fighters" is the dissemination of information, not just quoting," Khaleyan explained.

He added that even actions prior to making an entry in the federal list of extremist materials do not always save from responsibility if the investigation finds that the user understood the nature of the information.

The lawyer advises to review old publications and delete questionable posts, as well as to observe digital hygiene.

"Complaining about holes in the roads or utility tariffs is not prohibited by law. It is important not to turn to threats, insults and calls to "take down everyone," Haleyan concluded.

Earlier, on July 23, it was reported that the bill banning advertising on undesirable and extremist resources entered into force and provides for responsibility for the distribution of such advertising, including reposts and links to publications. Experts noted that fines for businesses and individuals are quite serious and require careful compliance with the rules.
