European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said it was necessary to make a decision on the withdrawal of frozen Russian assets as soon as possible. She wrote about this on December 8 on the social network X after a meeting of European leaders and talks with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to the head of the EC, Europe and Ukraine "no longer have time to rock up." She stressed that financial support for Kiev is key both for its survival and for strengthening the security of Europe itself. Von der Leyen also noted that work on the mechanism of the reparation loan is continuing, but admitted that this proposal is "difficult in terms of implementation."

"Providing financial support will ensure Ukraine's survival and is a key act for the defense of the European Union," she said.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that about seven EU countries called on the EU leadership to speed up the approval of a "reparation loan" for Ukraine at the expense of Russian assets. The document was signed by Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Finland, Sweden and Ireland, insisting on completing the process by the end of the year. The appeal emphasized that quick decisions on assets are of key importance and should improve Ukraine's position in matters of self-defense.
