What is the Melodiya company known for?

• Melodiya is known as the largest sound producer of the USSR and Russia. Established in 1964 as a united all-Union organization, it was able to centrally produce records throughout the country. Thanks to this, a large-scale national archive has been formed, covering almost all genres.

• The company has become the main producer of vinyl records. Her studios in Moscow, Leningrad, Riga and Tallinn had high-tech equipment. This made it possible to produce products in large numbers. A significant part of the releases were distributed abroad, thanks to which the foreign audience got acquainted with Soviet artists.

What was the scale of production?

• Melodiya was the only producer of gramophone records in the USSR, having released approximately 49 thousand titles before 1991, from classics to pop music and fairy tales. The company published recordings of world stars, for example, opera singer Elena Obraztsova, who obtained permission to stage and perform foreign operas such as Giuseppe Verdi's "Louise Miller", previously unreleased in the USSR, as well as rare recordings by conductor Kirill Kondrashin.

• After the collapse of the USSR, the Melodiya company found itself in a difficult situation. In the 1990s, the equipment was sold out and eventually the studio itself disappeared, as well as all the matrix originals. It was only in 2011, when a new team arrived, that the restoration began. Large-scale preservation of archives has become one of the key areas.: Thousands of phonograms have been digitized, cleaned and given a new sound.

• Gradually, the company moved from the role of a keeper to the creation of fresh content. She is once again releasing music of various genres, audiobooks, and literary and musical projects, thereby expanding her modern repertoire.

Which releases came out first?

• The first set of releases included several landmark works: "On the Wave of my Memory" by David Tukhmanov, the legendary Zodiac Disco Alliance from Latvia, the Dos Mukasan ensemble edition, as well as an updated version of the 1980s audio program "Autogenic Training for alcohol Abusers", prepared by specialists of the Yalta sanatorium. In the near future, the company plans to expand the catalog: children's audio fairy tales, classical editions, as well as releases dedicated to the composer Alexandra Pakhmutova are being prepared.

• For a significant part of the listeners, the name "Melody" still evokes associations primarily with vinyl releases. Therefore, the current launch of production is seen as an attempt to turn the Novosibirsk plant into an ideological heir to the Soviet factories that operated under this brand.
