Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog will continue to consider Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's request for clemency, awaiting recommendations from the country's justice ministry staff before making a decision. This was announced on December 7 by the state television and radio company Kan.

"Despite Netanyahu's statements, the Duke will continue to investigate the pardon request," the publication says.

According to the publication, the Duke's approach has not changed, despite Netanyahu's statement at a press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on December 7 in Jerusalem. The Prime Minister noted that he was not going to retire from political life in exchange for a pardon.

Earlier, on December 3, the Axios portal reported that Netanyahu had asked US President Donald Trump to support his attempt to obtain a pardon. In addition, the publication added that the American leader had repeatedly intervened in Israeli politics and sought to end the proceedings.

Prior to that, on December 1, Netanyahu's former lawyer Mika Fetman reported that Herzog could not make a decision to pardon the Israeli prime minister in a corruption case without Netanyahu's own admission of guilt.

On November 12, the head of the White House sent an official letter to the Duke urging him to consider pardoning Netanyahu. Trump expressed respect for the Israeli judicial system, but called the case against the prime minister unfounded and political.
