Sarkozy ate granola bars and dairy products in prison

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, released from prison under judicial control, shared his memories of life in prison. He said that for three weeks his diet consisted of cereal bars and dairy products. This was reported on December 6 by the newspaper Le Figaro, referring to his new book and excerpts from it.

"Sarkozy wrote <...> about life without anything. About the life of prisoner No. 320535 <...> About the daily life of a man who for three weeks ate dairy products, cereal bars, mineral water, apple juice and several sweets, and remained locked in his cell 23 hours a day, except when he was visited," the publication quotes an excerpt from the book.

The politician noted that he wrote a book every day at a small plywood table, and then handed it over to the lawyers, who, in turn, delivered it to his secretary. A few days after his release from prison, he completed the manuscript. Sarkozy said his lawyers also helped remove "overly harsh portraits" from the text before its final approval.

The former head of state was sentenced to five years in the "Libyan case", but acquitted of the most serious charges.

On November 10, the court decided to release Sarkozy from prison under judicial control. As part of the release, a number of prohibited actions are provided for the ex-president. It was noted that the former French president could not leave the country, communicate with other defendants in the case and contact the Minister of Justice Gerald Darmanin. If these conditions are not met, Sarkozy may be returned to prison.

Before that, on November 5, Le Point newspaper reported that Sarkozy, who was in Sante prison in Paris, refused prison meals and limited himself to yoghurts. As the newspaper noted, the ex-head of state was afraid that he could spit in the food or "do something even worse."
