Any actions with sovereign Russian assets that are not coordinated with Moscow are theft, which can destroy the business reputation of the European Union and undermine the foundations of the global financial system. This was stated on December 5 by Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev in an interview with Agence France-Presse.

"Any transactions with sovereign Russian assets that are not coordinated with Russia are theft. It is also obvious that the theft of Russian state funds will have large—scale consequences," the diplomat is quoted as saying on the embassy's Telegram channel.

According to Nechaev, the desire for illegal steps is explained by the desire to support the "agonizing corrupt neo-Nazi regime" in Ukraine, which needs funds to continue the conflict. He also condemned the hysteria being whipped up in Europe about Russia's alleged impending attack on NATO countries, calling it baseless nonsense, which has been repeatedly refuted by the Russian leadership.

Nechaev confirmed that Russia is ready to discuss US President Donald Trump's peace initiatives that take into account its security interests, but expressed regret that European politicians who do not have their own peace plan are blocking any progress towards a settlement, dreaming of Russia's "strategic defeat."

"With this in mind, it is hardly surprising that the once significant mediation potential of a number of European countries in conflict resolution is practically not in demand today," he concluded.

On the eve of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called the decision of the European Union (EU) countries to use frozen Russian assets as part of a "reparation loan" for Ukraine inadequate. She stressed that such inappropriate actions can cause maximum damage to the European Union.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on November 27 that the confiscation of Russian assets located in the European Union would have negative consequences. In particular, the Russian government, on behalf of the head of state, is developing a package of retaliatory measures.
