Vladimir Golubev, President of the Russian Cynological Federation, spoke about the importance of a properly adjusted winter dog diet.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Friday, December 5, he stressed that any revision of nutrition should be done under the supervision of a veterinarian.

The expert noted that in winter it is important to make a dog's diet especially carefully: any unnecessary change can lead to weight gain. He explained that nutrition should take into account the pet's activity level — for most dogs it decreases in winter, but for sled breeds, on the contrary, it increases. Fats provide "long-lasting" warmth and support the coat, protein is necessary for muscles, but its excess is harmful. According to the expert, in order to make changes to the pet's diet, it is important to understand the general principle of what makes up a proper diet, writes RT.

The water balance is also important: because of the heating, the water evaporates faster, and the bowl needs to be filled more often. Weight control is also required — the ribs should be palpable. At risk in winter are small, short-haired, elderly, pregnant and sick dogs, which often require a special diet.

The dog handler recommended feeding the dogs warm food and heating the water. Golubev added that there is no need to "feed more" in winter: the optimal diet should be individual and coordinated with the veterinarian.

On November 28, dog handler Konstantin Karapetyants told how to prolong a dog's life without pills. According to him, this requires proper nutrition, regular physical activity and the absence of stress, according to NSN.

On November 26, Golubev warned against keeping certain dog breeds in the apartment. In his opinion, it will be difficult for a Central Asian Shepherd Dog, St. Bernard, Great Dane or Tibetan mastiff even in a spacious room. In addition, it is problematic to use the elevator with such dogs. 360.ru .

In July, Golubev told us how to properly care for elderly dogs. According to him, it is important to ensure peace and from time to time include simple commands for mental activity. It is recommended to have checkups with a veterinarian every six months.
