The European Commission (EC) has fined the social network X (ex. Twitter) for €120 million for violating the digital rules of the European Union (EU) in accordance with the Digital Services Act (DSA). This was reported on the EC website on December 5.

"Leaks include the deceptive design of the blue checkmark, the lack of transparency of the advertising repository, and the inability to provide researchers with access to public data," the publication says.

It clarifies that policy X, related to the provision of a "check mark" for "verified accounts," misleads users, since anyone can pay for it.

Whereas, according to the DSA, online platforms are prohibited from falsely claiming that users have been verified if such verification has not actually taken place.

On October 14, Reuters reported that fashion houses Gucci, Chloe and Loewe were fined €157 million by the EU antitrust authority for setting resale prices for their retail partners. As the EC pointed out in the statement, these brands interfered with the commercial strategies of their retailers by imposing restrictions on pricing.
