Japanese police have detained a 17-year-old schoolboy who used the chatbot ChatGPT to launch a cyberattack on a network of fitness centers and Internet cafes, gaining access to the personal data of about 7.25 million people. This is reported by the Jiji Press agency with reference to law enforcement agencies.

According to police, a teenager from Osaka, together with an accomplice, carried out an attack on Kaikatsu Frontier, a company that operates a network of Internet cafes and fitness centers, in January.

"The boy fraudulently obtained data on the membership of about 7.25 million people of the Kaikatsu Club using a computer program created by him using artificial intelligence ChatGPT," the publication says.

During the investigation, it turned out that he had used ChatGPT to create malware. The teenager avoided direct mentions of the cyberattack in his correspondence with the bot, which allowed him to receive responses from ChatGPT. Under normal conditions, a neural network does not provide information that can be used to commit crimes.
