Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has called on the government of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov to resign after mass protests against the draft budget for 2026. This was reported on December 3 by the Reuters news agency.

"[The Bulgarian President] said that the protests on Monday showed that the government had failed to meet the expectations of the people and should resign immediately," the article says.

According to the President of the country, Bulgaria needs real changes that will lead to the rule of law and the restoration of statehood. In addition, Radev believes that the current government is unable to achieve these goals.

It is clarified that the ruling coalition rejected calls for resignation, and the chairman of the ruling GERB party (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) Boyko Borisov warned of possible chaos and a rapid rise in prices after Bulgaria's transition to the euro.

The euro will be introduced in Bulgaria from January 1, 2026. The republic will become the 21st official member of the eurozone. On May 31, the Bulgarian National Radio reported that protesters against the change of the national currency (the Bulgarian leva) fear a sharp rise in prices due to the introduction of the euro. In addition, they demanded a referendum on the country's accession to the eurozone.

On September 13, mass protests against the introduction of the euro took place in several Bulgarian cities, with strike leaders demanding the resignation of the government. Collection points for signatures in support of the preservation of the Bulgarian left were organized at the protest, the article says.
