The Babushkinsky District Court of Moscow upheld the decision on the arrest of hunting rifles, watches and shares in the authorized capital of the companies of the ex-governor of the Khabarovsk Territory Sergey Furgal. This was reported on December 3 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.

"The interim arrest imposed on six hunting rifles, watches, Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus cars, shares in legal entities, should be maintained until a decision on civil claims for compensation for damage," the judge read out the verdict.

In addition, a ban is imposed on any transactions and other alienation of property before a decision is made on civil lawsuits.

According to the court's decision, Furgal was sentenced to 23 years in a high-security penal colony in the case of organizing a criminal community and stealing assets from an SME bank. Taking into account the previously imposed punishment, Furgal will stay in the colony for 25 years. The ex-governor was found guilty of organizing a criminal community, large-scale fraud, illegal entrepreneurship and money laundering.

In October, the state prosecution asked the court to find Furgal guilty and sentence him to 22 years in prison to serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony in the case of embezzlement from an SME bank. The prosecutor requested a fine of 11 million rubles. For the other defendants in the case, the prosecution requested from four years in a general regime colony to 22 years in a high-security colony.

Furgal was detained in Khabarovsk in 2020. He was charged with organizing contract killings committed during the years of his entrepreneurial activity (from 1999 to 2005). In 2021, a new criminal case was opened against Furgal under Article 210 of the Criminal Code ("Organization of a criminal community") and several episodes of Article 159 of the Criminal Code ("Fraud").

In February 2024, a jury found the ex-governor guilty of organizing two murders and one attempted murder, as well as arms trafficking, but the statute of limitations on this episode has expired. Furgal was sentenced to 22 years in a high-security penal colony for organizing the murders of competitors in 2004-2005. The defense announced its intention to appeal the verdict. In September last year, the court upheld the sentence of Furgal, who was sentenced to 22 years for organizing two murders and one attempted murder.
