The designer of the controversial Jaguar Type 00 concept was fired from JLR
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has fired chief designer Jerry McGovern, who was responsible for the relaunch of the Jaguar brand and the development of the Type 00 electric car concept, which was ambiguously perceived by the public. This was reported by Autocar, citing its sources.
According to his information, McGovern, who worked at JLR for 21 years, was fired one day. The reasons for this decision are unknown — representatives of JLR declined to comment, and the parent company of Tata Motors did not respond to requests from the publication.
It is noted that McGovern's dismissal occurred a week after the CEO of JLR was replaced: former Tata Motors chief financial officer P. B. Balaji replaced Adrian Mardell, who was retiring. Such an appointment may indicate that the parent company is seeking to strengthen control over the British manufacturer.
McGovern was born in Coventry, England. He started his career at Chrysler, worked at Peugeot and Ford, and joined Land Rover in 2004. In 2020, McGovern was appointed Chief Creative Officer and member of the Board of Directors of Jaguar Land Rover.
At the end of 2024, Jaguar unveiled the relaunch of the brand as part of the brand's full transition to electric cars and showed the Type 00 concept, which will be used to develop a production version of the electric vehicle. Social media users and fans of the brand criticized the brand's new visual style and aesthetics.
The day before, it was reported that the Porsche Russland company, which is the official representative of the Porsche brand in Russia, confirmed that in recent days it has been recording an increase in the number of applications from Russian owners of Porsche cars to dealers due to engine start problems.
