Russians' plans for home purchase and home improvement are becoming more rational and economical. So, 13% of Russians plan to buy an apartment in 2026. Another 9% have already bought a home and are waiting for its commissioning, and one in five have to postpone the decision until credit conditions improve. This follows from the data of the Arlight company's research, which was reviewed on December 3 by Izvestia.

"The attitude towards repairs is becoming noticeably more practical. Almost a third of the respondents (29%) are going to reduce costs and make the renovation of the house more budget-friendly. Only 5% are ready to invest more seriously, while the largest group (32%) is planning repairs in the usual format," the experts noted.

Another 20% are going to extend their work for several years, focusing on priority tasks. Only 2% are willing to take out loans for repairs, and 3% are actually ready to move into the "concrete", limiting themselves to a minimal arrangement.

According to the study, interest in improving home space remains high, but consumer behavior has become more conscious. When choosing products, 33% of respondents began to pay more attention to durability and the possibility of repair, 27% focus on modern technology and functionality, and 11% — on the impact of products on health.

Against the background of these sentiments, saving has become one of the main trends of 2025. Almost half of the respondents (47%) preferred more affordable analogues. 26% each either shortened their shopping list or postponed purchases for the future. 10% of respondents made purchases on credit, while 19% still allowed themselves to choose the things they wanted without regard for the cost.

On November 29, Oleg Silkin, a real estate lawyer, told us what needs to be done to avoid losses when buying real estate with the risks of fraud under the "grandmother's apartments" scheme. So, experts suggest two ways of safety net, the principles of which are also described in the novel "12 chairs".
