If the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is detected, it is necessary to go to the AIDS center and start treatment as soon as possible. This was announced on December 1 by Vadim Pokrovsky, Head of the Federal Scientific and Methodological Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, during a press conference dedicated to World AIDS Day at the Izvestia Press Center.

He recalled that the detection of infection is carried out by laboratory methods, and the most accurate method remains a blood test.

On December 1, Elena Poretskova, Director of the Virology Department of the R-Pharm group, told Izvestia about the manifestations of HIV. A person with this disease may feel well for a while without treatment. But at the same time, the virus enters the cells, actively multiplies and leads to functional failure and depletion of the immune system.
