Two-time basketball world champion Lyudmila Bazarevich has died.

Two-time world basketball champion, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR Lyudmila Bazarevich died at the age of 87. This was announced on November 27 by the press service of the Russian Basketball Federation (RFB).

"The Russian Basketball Federation expresses its sincere condolences to the family of Lyudmila Sergeevna Bazarevich. We grieve with you," the organization's website says.

The cause of death of the athlete is not called. Bazarevich started her career under the guidance of coach Vitaly Yaroshevsky. She played for the USSR national team more than once, where she became a two-time world champion (in 1964 and 1967) and a five-time European champion.

Bazarevich was also a silver medalist at the Universiade, a bronze medalist at the USSR Championship, won the title of champion of the USSR and became the winner of the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR.

Lyudmila Bazarevich is the mother of two—time silver medalist at the World Championships and former head coach of the Russian national team, as well as the first Russian NBA player Sergei Bazarevich. Her grandson Dmitry also started his playing career in basketball, and now he is a member of the coaching staff of the Khimki team.
