In the case of cyberbullying, it is important for the victim to act quickly and consistently, without delaying key steps. Lawyer and human rights activist Ekaterina Alexandrovich told Izvestia about this on November 26.

"If this happens to you, the first thing you do is act quickly and without unnecessary emotions. Immediately block cards and e‑wallets through the mobile app, call center, or at a bank branch. At the same time, you change passwords in the most important services — online banking, email, social networks ‑ and, if possible, unlink the phone number," the expert said.

According to her, after the initial actions, it is necessary to save all correspondence, letters, SMS, screenshots and statements, and then submit an application for challenging transactions to the bank and a fraud report to the police. If there is a suspicion of changing the SIM card, it is important to contact the carrier immediately for blocking and verification. The lawyer explained that it is a statement to the police that becomes the basis for initiating a case under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and a package of documents to the bank — for demanding a refund. In case of refusal, it is necessary to file a complaint with the Bank of Russia and prepare a civil claim for damages.

"In order for your position to be strong, it is necessary to collect evidence systematically. Originals and copies of all messages, if possible with metadata, such as transaction statements, card numbers and details of recipients; call logs and conversation recordings, which telecom operators can provide as CDRs upon request of the investigation. You take screenshots of the correspondence, save the sent files and links, if necessary, involve an information security expert and record the testimony of witnesses," said Alexandrovich.

She clarified that if intruders use a citizen's personal data, it is urgently necessary to notify the police and banks in order to block possible loans. It is important to put a note about possible fraud in the credit bureaus, request your own credit history and challenge unknown loans. If data is leaked via an online resource, you should file a complaint with Roskomnadzor.

The lawyer stressed that the restoration of rights requires perseverance: the victim can demand written explanations from the bank and an official decision on the refund of funds. The decision to institute criminal proceedings strengthens the position in the dispute with the financial institution. In case of inaction of the bank, it is necessary to file a complaint with the Bank of Russia and prepare for the trial with the support of a lawyer.

The lawyer added that changing daily habits becomes the key to security: do not call back numbers from suspicious messages, do not transmit OTP codes and CVVs, use authenticator applications instead of SMS, put a PIN on a SIM card, enable push notifications and transaction limits, and avoid clicking on questionable links and installing untested applications.

On the same day, the Izvestia TV channel reported that a new fraud scheme was growing in Russia.: the victims themselves call the attackers, responding to SMS and emails asking them to call back. Scammers pretend to be delivery services, management companies, or banks, referring to "meter checking," "intercom replacement," or "authorization error."
