- Ataman Kuznetsov noted the unification of nations on the front line thanks to the Cossacks
The Cossacks became a home for many, as they united the peoples on the front line after the start of the special military operation (SVO). This was announced on November 26 by ataman of the All-Russian Cossack Society Vitaly Kuznetsov at a seminar on Cossacks at the Victory Museum.
"The Cossacks, they have shown not only in the North Caucasus, but also throughout Russia, that they can be a home for everyone and unite peoples. This is both on the front line and here," Kuznetsov said.
He added that international Cossack units are participating in the special military operation.
As the ataman pointed out, 47,000 Cossacks have already completed the special operation, and more than 5,000 have received state awards. In addition, 12 Cossacks became Heroes of Russia, five of them posthumously. Two more Cossacks are presented for this award.
Igor Barinov, head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs, noted that the revival of the Cossacks in Russia went through certain stages. So, first they created a special council, then they developed a strategy, and later a registry for military Cossack societies.
"A significant impetus for the revival of the Cossacks, of course, was 2014, the reunification of Crimea [with Russia], where the Cossacks played a huge role and showed that they, as before, are defenders of the interests of our Motherland. And, of course, a special military operation confirmed this," said Barinov.
Earlier, on June 24, the Museum of the History of the Cossacks in Russia opened in the center of Moscow. It is located in the building of an old mansion in Bolshoy Levshinsky Lane, where the Palace Department was located before the revolution of 1917. The new museum has a collection with more than 800 objects and modern multimedia content.
