The political scientist called the EU the "main loser" in the conflict in Ukraine

On November 24, Italian political scientist Lorenzo Pacini, in an interview with Izvestia, commented on the role of the European Union (EU) in the conflict settlement process in Ukraine.

According to his statement, the European Commission did not accept US President Donald Trump's plan and was excluded from the negotiation process.

"And we saw that the European Commission was trying to find a place at the negotiating table for European leaders as well. But it turned out to be impossible. We must say that Trump completely rejected this possibility from the very beginning," the political scientist noted.

According to Pacini, Europe practically does not figure in Trump's plan. The only mention of the EU is related to the hypothetical entry of Ukraine, which the expert considers unlikely due to the weakness of political will and the influence of European countries. This may indicate the intention of the United States to negotiate bypassing Europe.

"It is more likely that this point was a kind of small message hidden between the lines for Europe that they are no longer participating in these negotiations, and this will be the position of the United States of America," the expert stressed.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the decision-making space for Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky is shrinking. According to him, the rejection of a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis and the continuation of a special military operation (SVO) are "senseless and dangerous" for Ukraine.
