"Perhaps the pilot did not eject because he was confident that he would be able to get the plane out. Judging by the videos I saw, the pilot was really confident that he would be able to regain control, but the altitude was probably too low for that," Kochhar said.

According to him, an error in assessing the situation led to the death of the pilot. During maneuvering, the aircraft came too close to the ground, after which, due to inertia, the aircraft deviated. The general clarified that the fighter was performing a maneuver with a negative overload, against the force of gravity.

Kochhar ruled out the fuel leak version due to lack of evidence. He urged to wait for the official results of the investigation.

The general also described the Tejas Mark 1 as one of the safest fighter jets in the world, noting that this is only the second accident in 8 years of operation of 38 aircraft. The Indian-made multirole fighter of the 4.5 generation is equipped with a modern radar, long-range air-to-air missiles and an air refueling system.
