The member states of the European Union (EU) need to rethink their sanctions policy towards Russia, in particular, to lift the economic measures imposed against it in exchange for a cease-fire. This was announced on November 20 by Sarah Wagenknecht, leader of the Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice party.

"In order to regain influence on the negotiations, the Europeans should offer the lifting of sanctions and the resumption of energy relations with Russia in exchange for a cease—fire," she wrote on her page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

Wagenknecht commented on the plan of the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen to allocate another €135 million to Ukraine. According to her, this state has long turned into a "bottomless barrel." In addition, the politician clarified that the fact that the Europeans have driven themselves into "diplomatic isolation" is a "disgrace."

On the same day, Bloomberg, citing an informed source, learned that the new plan developed by the United States to resolve the conflict in Ukraine also implies the lifting of sanctions against the Russian Federation. In addition, it implies Kiev's cession of the eastern territory of Donbass to Moscow.
