According to German historian Frank Schumann, there are parallels between Europe before the outbreak of World War II and the current realities. He told about it on November 20 in an interview with Izvestia.

"Today, in fact, we are witnessing a situation that frighteningly resembles the pre-war years of 1939-1941. German tanks are again stationed at the Russian borders — in the north, in the Baltic States and actually in Ukraine," he said.

The expert added that the terms "genocide" and "war crimes" in the modern context are often used to describe events of the past.

"Genocide, aggression, war crimes, crimes against humanity — all this, they say, happened in 1945, it concerned the National socialist regime to which we (Germany. — Ed.) allegedly no longer have a relationship. This is the story. But what is happening today is completely different," he explained.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commenting on the adoption of a resolution on combating the glorification of Nazism in the Third Committee of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, said on November 15 that the West continues to encourage dangerous trends and refuses to join international efforts to counter the glorification of Nazism. It was clarified that the resolution expresses concern about attempts to present as heroes those who fought against the Anti-Hitler Coalition during World War II, collaborated with Nazi Germany and were involved in war crimes.
