- Patrushev discussed cooperation between Russia and India in the maritime sphere with Modi
During his visit to New Delhi, Russian Presidential Aide and Chairman of the Russian Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev discussed cooperation between the two countries in the maritime sphere with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This was announced on November 18 by the press service of the board on its website.
It is noted that at the meeting, the parties noted the mutual interest of Moscow and New Delhi in "deepening cooperation between the two countries in order to strengthen the maritime potential" of Russia and India. They also discussed preparations for the Russian-Indian summit to be held in New Delhi in early December.
In addition, Patrushev met with India's first Deputy Defense Minister Rajesh Singh and the leadership of the country's naval forces.
"For both our countries, a secure position at sea is a matter of national security and even survival in the face of increasing geopolitical and economic turbulence. Despite the fact that Russia and India are located in different regions, there are many similarities in the geostrategic position of our countries," the Russian presidential aide stressed.
He noted that the Indian Ocean is of great importance to New Delhi, as the main maritime trade routes connecting different continents pass through it. Patrushev added that strengthening India's maritime position is in line with Russia's strategic priorities and helps build a multipolar world.
At the end of the meeting, the Russian presidential aide presented Singh with a model of the Yaroslav the Wise ship and a badge of the Russian Maritime Collegium.
The day before, Patrushev, at a meeting with Indian Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonoval, said that Russia was ready to offer India comprehensive shipbuilding projects, including the creation of specialized vessels and the development of port infrastructure. During the meeting, the Russian presidential aide also proposed the creation of joint shipbuilding and ship repair clusters in such important economic regions of India as Mumbai and Chennai.
