Daily walks of 10,000 steps can be dangerous for an untrained person and for patients with special needs. Lyudmila Lapa, a general practitioner of the highest category, warned about this on Monday, November 17.

According to the expert, a large amount of movement creates a serious strain on the cardiovascular system and the immune system. If a person does not exercise and has health contraindications, long walks can exacerbate existing problems.

She clarified that people who have had injuries or vascular problems need to recover with extreme caution. You should start small, because an unsportsmanlike body is not designed for such heavy loads.

"It is also not recommended for patients who have suffered a stroke and heart attack to walk 10,000 steps: the load should be increased gradually. The maximum number for them in this case is two to three thousand steps. Patients with metabolic disorders — osteoarthritis and gout — are prohibited from walking 10,000 steps, in principle, they are prescribed the lightest, slowest movement," the expert said in an interview with the "Paragraph".

Lapa added that if a person experiences pain after walking or has viral symptoms, it is also better to give up prolonged walking. 360.ru .

On November 13, the endocrinologist of the KDC NCC No. 2 of the Russian National Research Center named after Academician B.V. Petrovsky Yulia Atamanova said that the Japanese interval walking method helps burn more calories, reports RT. The expert noted that this method includes three-minute cycles of fast and slow walking.

September 29, cardiac surgeon, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Leo Bokeria said that walking six hours a week will help prolong life by 15-20 years, reports NSN.

A recent study has shown that even moderate physical activity can slow down the development of Alzheimer's disease. Scientists have been monitoring almost 300 elderly people with early signs of the disease for 9-11 years and found that physical activity does not reduce the number of amyloid plaques in the brain, but reduces the accumulation of tau proteins associated with memory and cognitive decline. In the more active participants, these signs were reduced by half.
