The Ministry of Internal Affairs has warned residents of St. Petersburg about a new scam in messengers

Attackers in messengers actively send messages on behalf of management companies (CC), trying to gain access to passport data, SNILS and other confidential information of citizens for subsequent fraud. On November 17, the Department for Combating the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region warned about this.

"Scammers in messengers pose as employees of management companies and ask them to "confirm personal data." The goal is to collect enough information to then gain access to a credit history, job information, and even a personal account for Public Services," the department's Telegram channel says.

According to the agency, fraudsters write to citizens on behalf of representatives of the Criminal Code or HOA with a request to send passport data, SNILS, date of birth or a link to the profile of Public Services. They use the victim's data to access their bank accounts.

Interior Ministry experts recommend that if you receive suspicious messages, call the management company using official phone numbers from the website or the sign at the entrance. It is also important to enable two-factor authentication in all services, and regularly check your credit history and bank notifications. If fraud is attempted, you should save screenshots of the correspondence and immediately contact the bank to block transactions, as well as notify law enforcement agencies.
