Lavrov and the Egyptian Foreign Minister discussed the situation around Iran's nuclear program

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed the situation around the Iranian nuclear program with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelati during a telephone conversation, noting the need to avoid a new escalation. The relevant information was published on the official website of the ministry on November 16.

"Among the international and regional topics, an exchange of views took place on the situation around the Iranian nuclear program. They stressed their mutual commitment to a political and diplomatic settlement and the importance of finding solutions to avoid a new escalation of tension," the ministry said in a statement.

In addition, the parties discussed the American resolution on the Gaza Strip and stressed that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict must be resolved on a long-term basis. Lavrov and Abdelati also discussed Russian-Egyptian cooperation, particularly in the energy sector.

Earlier, on November 11, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin met with Egyptian Ambassador Hamdi Shaaban to discuss the implementation of joint infrastructure projects and preparations for the second Russia–Africa ministerial conference.

Prior to that, on November 10, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, during a meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu, conveyed greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin, stressing that the country highly appreciates relations with Moscow. The parties also discussed bilateral economic cooperation, in particular the construction of the Ed-Dabaa nuclear power plant and the creation of a Russian industrial zone on the banks of the Suez Canal.
