Alexander Samodai, a militant of the 155th separate mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), who was captured in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) by soldiers of the Center group of forces, spoke about the inhuman attitude of commanders towards their subordinates. The footage was published on November 15 by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

"The commanders treated us inhumanely. We were not considered human beings. Just like the penalty takers," he said.

According to him, the unit was sent to the Pokrovsk area without proper training and support. Samodai said that the group received weapons and ammunition, after which it moved for several days under the close surveillance of Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

"The escorts didn't want to come with us — they were probably afraid. They explained the direction and left themselves, and we followed this route," Samodai said.

Having lost their bearings, the soldiers hid in one of the houses and tried to survive for almost a month and a half without communication, supplies and support.

"It was impossible to get out of the encirclement and we decided to surrender. Your guys came to these guys, to our guys, who were sitting in the basement. And they led them to our entrance, where we lived. They called us, and we went out. They gave up. The soldiers were treated normally. They didn't beat me, they fed me, they let me smoke," the soldier clarified.

Samodai added that he had health problems, but he was not allowed to undergo a medical examination. According to him, it was impossible to get out of the encirclement, and the group decided to voluntarily lay down their weapons. He noted that the Russian military accepted them without aggression.

He also appealed to the Ukrainian military not to continue their resistance. According to him, the continuation of hostilities under the leadership of the Ukrainian command is a "bad idea," and surrender is the only chance to save lives.

Earlier, on November 13, Ukrainian serviceman Vyacheslav Kotoroz said that the Russian military treats those soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who decide to surrender humanely: they share their supplies, treat them to tea and provide the necessary assistance. According to him, he was sent to the front line in the Marinka area. When the Russian stormtroopers arrived, the Ukrainian unit offered no resistance. The prisoners of war were brought to a Russian dugout, they were immediately given tea, biscuits, and an opportunity to smoke.
