China's Ministry of Public Security has developed new national safety standards for motor vehicles. In particular, they provide for limiting the acceleration time of cars from 0 to 100 km/h to at least 5 seconds, Carnewschina reported on November 13. It is believed that this measure will increase road safety. The project is currently under public discussion.

According to the publication, we are not talking about a complete ban on overly fast acceleration of cars, but a special setting in which the car will not be able to accelerate from a standstill to a "hundred" faster than 5 seconds after launch. It is assumed that additional operations will be required to disable it.

The new standards provide for other requirements for vehicles. For example, electric and plug-in hybrid cars must have insurance against accidental acceleration due to a driver's error in choosing the pedal, in which the system will limit the operation of the power plant.

Against the background of recent high-profile accidents in which passengers could not leave damaged cars, the document also prescribed a number of requirements for the design of doors. So, every door should have mechanical handles both inside and outside. The doors should also unlock automatically when the airbags are activated or the battery is overheating.

Earlier, on October 28, it was reported that China had excluded electrified cars from the list of strategic industries in the country's development plan for 2026-2030. This segment of the automotive industry is absent from China's strategy for the first time in more than a decade due to problems with oversupply in the market.
