- The EC announced the exhaustion of funds to support Kiev from the frozen assets of the Russian Federation
The European Union (EU) has exhausted funds to support Ukraine from frozen Russian assets. This was announced on November 13 by European Commissioner for Economics Valdis Dombrovskis.
"The European Commission has allocated €4.1 billion to Ukraine, having exhausted its program of €18.1 billion raised by the EU under the ERA initiative (A program for financing through interest from Russian assets. — Ed.)," Dombrovskis wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
The ERA project was funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and aimed at supporting Ukraine. After Donald Trump came to power, USAID's activities were discontinued, and its programs were transferred to the State Department, notes "Газета.Ru ".
On the same day, the head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, announced the transfer of about €6 billion to Ukraine under the G7 credit facility allocated for income from Russian assets. In particular, she noted that the main purpose of these actions of the EC is the desire to increase the cost for Russia of conducting a special military operation in Ukraine.
On November 12, French Economy Minister Roland Lescure said that the transfer of Russian assets to Ukraine was technically possible and politically expedient. He expressed hope that the European Commission would be able to convince Belgium to support the use of frozen funds for financial assistance to Kiev.
