Counterfeit banknotes for almost 1 million rubles were withdrawn from circulation in Kuban

Since the beginning of 2025, 266 counterfeit banknotes have been withdrawn from circulation in the Krasnodar Territory. The total face value of the fakes exceeded 950 thousand rubles.

The Southern Main Directorate of the Bank of Russia stressed that the number of counterfeits has decreased by 41 units compared to 2024. Most often, counterfeiters forge a 5,000-ruble banknote of the 1997 model. A total of 170 such instances have been identified, writes KrasnodarMedia news agency.

78 thousand-ruble notes were withdrawn. In addition, 11 banknotes with a face value of 2000 rubles with signs of forgery were identified.

Experts recommend that residents of Kuban be careful when using cash. Banknotes should be checked for at least three signs of authenticity.
