The 235th Garrison Military Court will consider the case against Pavel Popov, former Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, in a closed-door bribery and fraud case. This was reported on November 11 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.

So, the court granted the prosecutor's request.

The initiation of a criminal case against Popov became known in August 2024. He is suspected of fraud (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) related to the Patriot Park. In addition, Popov took part in the forced involvement of the heads of commercial organizations that had signed a contract with the park to work without paying for them.

According to the anti-corruption declaration for 2010-2019, Popov owns a house of 245 square meters. square meters and a plot of 24 acres. He got the house in 2017, and the plot has been in his possession since 2009.

Popov acted in cooperation with Vyacheslav Akhmedov, director of the park, and Vladimir Shesterov, Deputy head of the Main Directorate for Innovative Development of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, whose detention became known on August 5, 2024. Akhmedov was sentenced to five years in prison, Shesterov — to six years in a general regime colony. Then Popov pleaded not guilty. On October 28, the court extended Popov's arrest for six months.
