Alexander Mogilny is inducted into the Toronto Hockey Hall of Fame
Olympic champion, World Cup winner and Stanley Cup winner Alexander Mogilny was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Canada. This was announced on November 11 on the website of the National Hockey League (NHL).
The 56-year-old Russian himself did not take part in the event on Tuesday night, but made a speech via video link.
"I don't like waking up early, but when the 416 area code appeared on my phone at three in the morning, and the beautiful voices I had been waiting for said, "Hi, Alex," I realized that something special had happened. I was so worried that I couldn't sleep anymore," Mogilny said.
The Russian has been nominated for the Hockey Hall of Fame since 2009. He noted that all this time his fans and fans were pushing the athlete to become better.
"This sport is nothing without its community. Hockey has given me everything, and the most wonderful thing about it is its ability to unite people, countries, different lifestyles and stories. I really hope that my story will inspire some child from a small Russian town to dream of more," said the hockey player.
Prior to that, on October 24, the head of the press service of the Hall of Fame, Kelly Massey, clarified that Mogilny would not be able to attend the induction ceremony into the Hockey Hall of Fame. She added that his fans will be able to hear his performance: the hockey player's speech will be broadcast as part of the November 10 event in Toronto.
The fact that Mogilny will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2025 became known on June 24. It was clarified that he won the World Championship in 1989 and the gold medal at the Winter Olympics in 1988.
